What Should I Expect From Taking Enzymes?

What should I expect when I start taking enzymes?

Not everyone experiences the same reactions or results when they start taking enzymes.  Most people start feeling better within a few days, especially in terms of digestion and elimination.  By improving  the absorption of nutrients, the body is better able to detoxify itself.

In addition, yeasts, bacteria and parasites may start to die off and initially it may be hard for the body to dispose of them quickly. For some people, that means that they may feel a little worse before they feel better.  Symptoms could include headache, “flu-like” feelings, and fatigue or skin rashes.  This is can actually be a good sign!  This means that your body is actually starting to clean house!  You can lower your dosage to control the symptoms, keeping in mind that improvements will also come at a slower pace.

Most importantly…make sure to drink plenty of water!

Yes, you need to be careful not to give up just because you experience a “healing crisis” or “healing response” – push past that and you will feel the difference.

when “detoxification” is discussed, how the heck do we know what we are toxified with, how do we know what dangers that brings and how do we know when we have accomplished something with long term benefit?
    (just curious!)

Dyeing parasites… Yuck that doesn’t sound good at all. But what is it in the enzymes that kill the parasites? I thought the enzymes just helped break down the food passing through the body.

  8. Always best to be informed so you don’t panic when something that could be “typical” happens. It’s good to know that you might feel a little worse before you feel better as your body detoxes. That way there’s no need to see me for a new-found panic disorder! 🙂

  9. I’m glad you mentioned that you may feel worse before you feel better. But like Kevin asked, I’d be curious to know how you’d determine if you were getting worse per a normal reaction or how would you know it wasn’t an allergic reaction or some adverse reaction?

Fascinating stuff I’m learning from you here!

  10. Hi Gary,

So it sounds like there can sometimes be some discomfort when we first start to take enzyme supplements, but that the discomfort is really short term which the benefits are long-term.
